Why?
The past few years have generated a steady stream of articles slanted on the demise and poor health of the illustration marketplace. While there have been many facts to support the writer's points of view, “I do not agree.” This brand of “fear based” reporting is irresponsible. Further, there has been a dramatic need to evolve the industry, broaden the marketplace and invest more time and money into personal, artistic endeavor.
Today, it is our collective responsibility to educate, empower and motivate the creative public. We need to work collaboratively and provide inspirational experience. My personal goal, while working on this journal, was to communicate the power of personal response and artistic expression. Proudly, the 28 members of Picture Mechanics who invested, created artwork and authored this journal are about to blow you away.
Collectively, Picture Mechanics represents the talent of 42 unique and passionately motivated artisans who live and practice their creative lifestyle all over the world. PM features a talent pool with over 1,000 years of experience within the art and illustration industry. They're an accomplished collection of professionals who understand professionalism and recognize the importance of personal expression.
Personally, I am amazed at the range of talent and skill sets that the members of PM have accomplished: children's and adult book publishing, film and animation, editorial and commercial assignments, promotional campaigns, product packaging, character, toy and gaming development. And fine art installations.
They have experienced it all. They are inventive, entrepreneurial, and industry leaders. Read on and learn more about this talented group as they tackle the “Why” of their careers and how they stay motivated, inspired and vital in the industry at large. Enjoy.
